IMF Confirms Ukraine's Compliance with Currency Liberalization Commitments
The International Monetary Fund has confirmed Ukraine's fulfillment of its commitment to analyze measures to ease currency restrictions. The National Bank of Ukraine has implemented 154 measures for currency liberalization, of which 144 are aimed at easing restrictions, while 10 are intended to prevent their reversal. Liberalization began in May 2024 and continues depending on economic conditions. Restrictions on currency operations for businesses have been eased, and foreign investors can invest in Ukrainian enterprises. The total volume of operations under liberalization amounts to 1,054 million dollars, with an unused limit of 875 million dollars. Individuals can purchase cash currency without restrictions, and banks have been allowed to consider part of their reserves when calculating their currency position. The measures to ease restrictions have not led to significant additional demand for currency, with liberalization operations accounting for about 4% of the total volume of currency purchases. The National Bank plans further steps towards liberalization depending on macroeconomic conditions and the state of the currency market.
