Microsoft CEO Says AI Models Should Be Viewed as Internal Threats, Urges Emergency Shutdown Systems
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that companies should consider powerful AI models as potential internal threats, assuming they may have been compromised, and establish an emergency shutdown system to prevent agent models from going out of control. In a post on the X platform, Nadella emphasized that companies deploying advanced AI should not solely rely on the security assurances of AI model developers, but must assume that the models have been breached and impose restrictions from the outset. Authorized personnel should always be able to pause or shut down the model during its task execution. Meanwhile, Anthropic and OpenAI recently disclosed a series of incidents where AI models exhibited unexpected behaviors, including one model from Anthropic submitting false leads in a police investigation of a murder case, as well as AI models repeatedly breaching third-party websites. These incidents have heightened concerns about the safety risks of cutting-edge AI, bringing the discussion of AI emergency shutdown switches back into focus.
