Galaxy Research Reveals Bitcoin's Random Inscriptions as Script Testing
Galaxy Research has discovered that the Bitcoin network has been generating approximately 40 inscriptions composed of random letters each day over the past three weeks. These inscriptions appear to be encrypted text but are not actually cryptographic information. A statistical analysis of 562 texts shows that the frequency of the 26 letters ranges from 3.6% to 4.2%, which is significantly different from the letter distribution found in normal English text. On-chain transaction behaviors exhibit automated characteristics, typically involving one input, a new change address, and an OP_RETURN data output, forming multiple consecutive transaction chains, with the longest reaching 86 transactions. The entity behind this operation is referred to as the "Babel Scribe," which seems more like a testing tool for data publishing on the Bitcoin mainnet rather than a means of conveying hidden information. The structure of on-chain transactions, the continuous use of change addresses, and the regular timing of transactions all indicate the characteristics of automated scripts. Related activities also include testing texts, random words in different languages, binary data, and subsequent writings of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Estimates suggest that the project has transferred approximately 3.33 million satoshis, with about 24% used for miner fees, while the remaining funds are still held in the associated addresses. Researchers suggest that these random inscriptions should not be interpreted as hidden information.
