Elon Musk to Add Feature to Send $1 via Long Press on Like Button
On the 25th, Elon Musk revealed in a post that a feature will be added to X that allows users to send $1 via the payment service X Money by long-pressing the like button. The post was brief, simply stating that users can "send $1 to someone" by long-pressing the like button.
The timing for the launch of this feature has not been indicated. It is also unclear whether the recipient can only be the poster themselves, with some foreign media reporting it as a tipping feature for the poster. It is unknown whether the recipient will also need an X Money account.
On July 27, X Money began general availability for U.S. Premium and Premium+ subscribers. The deposit balance can earn up to 6% annual yield depending on conditions, and a Visa debit card will also be issued. Deposits are held by Cross River Bank, and the service is limited to the U.S., with no announcement on when it will expand to other countries. As of September 23, U.S. users who are not subscribed to X's paid plans can also use the service.
Cryptocurrency and Stablecoins Not Included
Currently, X Money does not handle Bitcoin (BTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), or stablecoins. It does not support on-chain payments, and the $1 transfer is expected to use a dollar-denominated balance. Given Musk's connection to Dogecoin, there have been many predictions that cryptocurrency will be integrated into X Money before its launch.
Regarding stablecoins, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren sent a letter to Musk in April, pointing out deficiencies in consumer protection and potential impacts on financial stability. The senator also questioned whether there is an intention to issue a payment stablecoin using the provisions for private companies in the U.S. Stablecoin Regulation Act (Genius Act) established in 2025. As of the general availability launch in July, X has not responded to this question.
