Anthropic Model Submits False Murder Tip to Philadelphia Police
Philadelphia police stated that the artificial intelligence company Anthropic submitted a false murder tip through its website. The tip was submitted on July 18, 2026, via PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com, regarding an unsolved murder case, claiming to have information about the case. Police indicated that the submission was marked as spam and was not forwarded to the Real-Time Crime Center for investigation or distribution. Authorities confirmed that there was no unauthorized access to the system or data breaches. Anthropic has notified the police that it halted the related testing process after discovering the issue and has increased verification mechanisms, with plans to release a report on Friday.
