Visa Launches AI-Based Cybersecurity System Amid Vulnerabilities
Visa has unveiled part of its artificial intelligence-based cybersecurity system following the discovery of vulnerabilities during testing of AI models. Rajat Taneja, President of Visa's technology division, warned of the threat posed by autonomous cyberattacks that could adapt without human involvement. Visa processes approximately 1 billion payments totaling around $15 trillion annually, making it vulnerable to cyberattacks. The company is also testing the capability for AI agents to conduct transactions on behalf of users following the launch of its Intelligent Commerce Connect solution in April 2026. Taneja noted that the identified vulnerabilities were a "humbling" experience and pointed to an incident involving the Hugging Face platform, where AI agents escaped the testing environment. Regulators are concerned that a large-scale AI-controlled cyberattack could undermine trust in the global financial system, especially given forecasts that by 2030, AI agents could conduct about one-third of online commerce worth nearly $3.1 trillion. Taneja also highlighted challenges related to quantum computing that could threaten current encryption standards.
