USA Becomes Bitcoin Importer, Trend from 2022 Broken
Chainalysis has noted that for the first time since 2022, the USA has become a bitcoin importer, sending more units of the cryptocurrency abroad than it is acquiring from other countries. An analysis of data for the year ending June 2026 shows that transfers below $10,000 exhibited a net outflow, while larger transfers, above $10 million, had a net inflow, corresponding to 53,200 bitcoins that arrived in the country. Retail customers are sending bitcoins abroad, while institutions are bringing them in. The exporters are BTC ETFs, whose share of global bitcoin activity has been increasing since the introduction of ETF funds in January 2024. Investor interest in bitcoin as an alternative coin remains strong, especially in the context of rising public debt. In the USA, bitcoin still dominates, while stablecoins are growing in the rest of the world, indicating their increasing role in digital asset activity.
