Strive CEO Emphasizes Need for Performance-Based Compensation Linked to Bitcoin Companies
The CEO of Strive has identified shareholder trust and performance-linked compensation as key issues for Bitcoin financial companies. He stated that companies holding Bitcoin must perform better than Bitcoin itself, and executive compensation should align with this goal. In an interview with Bitcoin Magazine on September 15, CEO Matt Cole emphasized the importance of incentives and industry reputation, stating that Bitcoin financial companies need to communicate more frequently with their shareholders. He assessed that the existing compensation plan at Metaplanet created potential conflicts of interest with shareholders, explaining that performance following the Bitcoin strategy has exceeded Bitcoin. After shareholder backlash, Metaplanet reduced its executive option pool by 41%, and while Cole acknowledged concerns that the compensation structure could lead to problematic behavior, he viewed the corrective measures positively. He mentioned that Strive has been an activist investor pointing out governance issues in past U.S. companies, emphasizing that companies must respond to shareholder concerns. Additionally, he stated that the goal of Bitcoin companies is to achieve performance that exceeds Bitcoin, and a significant portion of compensation should be linked to this. Strive plans to strengthen its analysis in the Bitcoin financial sector by bringing in Adam Livingston, a figure from the cryptocurrency industry. He anticipates that a Bitcoin-based yield curve will form and that the need for various investment products centered around Bitcoin as a core asset will grow.
