Solana Consensus Upgrade Alpenglow Launches on Mainnet on October 21, Reducing Confirmation Time to 150 Milliseconds
The new Solana consensus protocol Alpenglow will go live on Mainnet-beta around 22:50 on October 21. Developed by Anza over 18 months, Alpenglow will replace the consensus protocol TowerBFT that has been in place since the genesis and will remove the historical proof mechanism. The final confirmation time for transactions will be reduced from several seconds to approximately 150 milliseconds, with voting moving off-chain to free up block space for user transactions. The migration will be completed within a single slot. Alpenglow has already completed migration on the testnet and development network, undergoing simulated testing with 1,500 nodes and a bug bounty exceeding 25,000 SOL.
