EU Negotiates with China to Lift Sanctions for Sindlhauser
The European Union is negotiating with China for mutual lifting of restrictions to save the German company "Sindlhauser Materials GmbH," a key supplier to "ASML Holding NV." Brussels is considering lifting trade sanctions on an unnamed Chinese company in exchange for the removal of Chinese restrictions. In July, China's Ministry of Commerce placed Sindlhauser on the export control list due to its cooperation with Taiwan. Sindlhauser relies on supplies of Chinese rare earth minerals and risks ceasing operations without access to raw materials. Negotiations for mutual sanctions relief were discussed at a meeting between the head of the EU trade department and the Chinese Minister of Commerce. The parties agreed to expand information exchange and warnings about export restrictions. The EU must take the first step by lifting sanctions against the Chinese enterprise before Beijing unblocks supplies for Sindlhauser. European officials express concerns that this will weaken the motivation for businesses to seek alternative suppliers and lead to concessions regarding companies assisting Russia.
