Vitalik Buterin Says the Race for zkEVM Speed is Over, Security is the Top Priority
Vitalik Buterin congratulated the Airbender team on Twitter, stating that the race for zkEVM speed has completely ended and the primary focus should shift to security. He pointed out the need for formal verification of the equivalence of arithmetic to Ethereum standards, the hard upper limit on the ratio of proof costs to block gas amounts, and the security of the proof system itself. Previously, the Ethereum Layer 2 network ZKsync launched the prover Airbender Prime, claiming it to be the first prover to achieve real-time Ethereum proofs on a single GPU. Airbender Prime is based on the open RISC-V standard, utilizing a hash-based STARK with post-quantum security, and combines GKR sumcheck, WHIR polynomial commitment, and BLAKE2s hashing. Its L1 proof will use a commitment based on Keccak-256 instead of BN254 pairing.
