Ministry of Agriculture regulates accreditation of blockchain technology companies to monitor soy and corn
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has published accreditation rules for companies using blockchain technology to monitor grain harvests. The MAPA Ordinance No. 885/2026 establishes requirements for companies interested in agricultural traceability, aiming to increase the transparency of information regarding rural grain production in Brazil. The focus includes crops such as soy, corn, coffee, wheat, rice, and beans. Companies must demonstrate technical capacity to store data without the risk of tampering, with blockchain technology being one of the options to ensure the immutability of records. The cross-referencing of information via satellite will be used to verify the territorial limits of producers. The selected programs will be valid for 36 months and must ensure confidentiality of productive information. Accreditation is necessary for access to rural credit programs and meets the demands of commercial partners regarding the sustainable origin of commodities. The accredited company will be responsible for the custody of digital files, while the government will not store copies of private data.
