JPMorgan Blocks External AI Access to Accounts
JPMorgan Chase has blocked customer account access by external artificial intelligence (AI) agents. This measure is aimed at preventing security incidents and liability issues that could arise during the process of AI performing remittances and payments on behalf of customers. CEO Jamie Dimon stated during the third-quarter earnings announcement that direct access by external AI agents such as Meta's 'Muse' and 'Instinct' will not be permitted. He explained that financial transactions conducted by uncontrolled AI agents pose risks to both customers and JPMorgan. JPMorgan has determined that some external AI services accessing accounts through customers' online banking login information are not secure, allowing account balance inquiries by approved external services but blocking remittances or bill payments. Dimon emphasized that customers must understand the risks and responsibilities that could arise if they delegate authority to external AI agents. Additionally, there are analyses suggesting that this measure also aims to protect the bank's revenue base. Following the launch of Meta's AI agent Muse, U.S. bank stocks have declined, raising concerns that AI could automatically move customers' deposits. JPMorgan is accelerating its own AI service development while restricting external AI access to accounts.
