CoreWeave Seeks Insurance Funding to Support AI Expansion, Financing Exceeds $35 Billion

CoreWeave is seeking to attract funding from insurance companies to reduce the financing costs of purchasing AI chips and building infrastructure. Co-founder Branning McBee stated that if more debt secured by chips can achieve investment-grade ratings, there would be opportunities to enter the insurance funding market. He pointed out that the capital scale of the insurance industry is almost limitless. Earlier this year, CoreWeave secured an $8.5 billion loan backed by NVIDIA chips and long-term contracts with Meta. The company plans to attract insurance companies to purchase loans supported by lower-rated clients. So far this year, CoreWeave has raised over $35 billion through chip-secured loans, high-yield bonds, convertible bonds, and stock issuances. As of the end of June, the company's debt and lease obligations amounted to approximately $52 billion.
