Bessent Rebuts Warren, Treasury Buyback Plan to Start in May 2024
U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent wrote to Senator Warren in response to her criticisms of the Treasury's policies, stating that Warren's understanding of the financial markets "lacks foundation" and criticizing her support for the Biden administration's spending policies. Bessent noted that Warren's claim that recent U.S. "interventions are unprecedented" is inaccurate, and that the Treasury buyback plan will begin implementation in May 2024, which has been welcomed by market participants. The plan aims to enhance liquidity in the Treasury market, reduce market volatility, improve the convenience of Treasury yields, and secure better value for taxpayers. Additionally, Bessent mentioned that the tax policies of the Trump administration are benefiting families and workers, including measures such as tax exemptions for overtime income, tips, additional deductions for seniors, and child tax credits.
